Where do we belong?
Set in the northern suburbs of Melbourne and on Aphrodite’s island,
Cyprus, Misplaced is a story about Ella, an Australian born Greek-Cypriot
that struggles with the complexities of life. She spends her weekends
prowling nightclubs for the 'one' to set her free. In her crucial adolescent years, she
is torn between parents stuck in their old ways and the Anglo
ways, longing for her parents’ homeland as if it were her own.
It is this longing that
draws her to the internet and George – he lives in Cyprus. A
twenty-four year old accountant, George is a sketch artist
as is Ella, even though she studies Business at Latrobe University.
George’s employer is planning to send him to Australia for a
conference – Ella and George joke about meeting in person. They chat
about their lives and send each other drawings.
But can they be more than friends? Can you fall in love with someone
you've never even met?
From the northern suburbs of Melbourne to the Mediterranean waters of
Cyprus, Misplaced is a powerful novel that dares to
tread into the complicated tapestry of the mind. It takes the reader
into the house of a migrant family where rules, regulations and
religion are imposed,
and explores the difficulties faced by this second generation to
find their identity in their homeland, Australia.
