Short poems

Lately I’ve been experimenting with short poems so I can capture a particular moment in time, like a tear drop, in as few words as possible. I’ve written some at gigs and others while on the train or tram and see them as bite-sized pieces of literature, well suited to the internet.

Here is a sample of my short poems:

I am not my words
so stop treating me like I am

Nothing is ever over
it is only moving
evolving, changing
into something quiet
different

He runs marathons in circles
chases answers in embraces
other than his own

Give up on love and live freely

I have someone yet I am alone

If I can’t live a life on the edge
I don’t want to live at all

I never close my curtains
so you can see me

The best bands in Melbourne
only play to ten people

My couch, is my own, only

Surprise me
but don’t overwhelm me
I might run

Where do I live?
I’m not too sure

Going home alone is okay
as long as there is a big double bed
with your name on it

Alcohol is great
for sedating the gremlin
inside you

The door closed for the night
and the sign on it said:
no access

Call me! Call me!
so I can convince you
that you’re wrong!

There’s a little girl on a swing
Is she mine?

What are you looking at?
I’m not here alone!
I’m here with my notebook!
